	Abstract = {This thesis discusses the details of the Java Portlet Specification JSR-168. It explains architectural aspects of portals and portlet applications and especially shows common designs patterns that can be found in the structure of the portal and portlet programming model. The last chapter contains examples of JSR-168 compatible portlets runnings in the reference implentation of the standard, Apache Pluto. It illustrates the use of the Portlet API and its functions.}}
